Where Sub-Zero Leaks Usually Show Up

  • Under the refrigerator, especially between the doors
  • Inside the base, under the crisper drawers
  • Around the water dispenser or filter
  • Water or ice collecting on the bottom of the fresh food section
  • Ice forming around the freezer door
  • Rust or stains on the floor or toe-kick grille

Common Causes of a Sub-Zero Leak

  • Clogged defrost drain. The most common cause. Defrost water backs up, overflows and freezes, then leaks into the cabinet.
  • Cracked or full drain pan. The pan under the unit can crack or overflow.
  • Water line or fitting. A loose, cracked or kinked supply line behind the unit, often after the unit was pulled out.
  • Water inlet valve. A failing valve drips constantly into the ice maker or dispenser.
  • Water filter housing. A cracked housing or a filter that isn’t seated.
  • Ice maker fill problems. Overfilling causes water and ice to spill over.
  • Door gasket. A worn seal causes condensation that drips down the door.

What to Do Right Now

  • Shut off the water supply valve behind or under the unit if you can reach it
  • Dry the floor and place towels to protect hardwood and cabinets
  • Don’t pull a built-in Sub-Zero out yourself. They weigh 400 lbs or more and the water line is easy to damage
  • Find the model and serial number (usually on the ceiling of the refrigerator compartment) and text it to us with your request

Models We Repair

We repair leaks on every Sub-Zero line, including Classic built-in models (BI-36, BI-42, BI-48 and the older 500 and 600 series), Designer column and integrated units, and PRO 48 refrigerators. If your Sub-Zero is also warming up, see Sub-Zero not cooling, or see all Sub-Zero repair services.

Prevent Future Leaks

A yearly Sub-Zero maintenance visit includes flushing the defrost drain, checking the water line and filter housing, and cleaning the condenser. Ask about it when you call (470) 805-1621.

I would like to give Appliance Tech Pros a 3.5/5 stars and the technician, Kevin, 4/5 stars. Kevin was very communicative and arrived within the expected window. On top of that, he fixed our dryer. Sadly, that is high praise for a service technician. My only complaint is that I suggested he bring both parts that could be the issue. He only brought one and had to make a second trip out to fix it. Appliance Tech Pros as a company was also communicative and set reasonable expectations. That said, they offer a $20 discount for a favorable Google review. Now I'm side-eyeing all their positive reviews… Bottom line/TL;DR – would I hire them again? Maybe. Kevin was great. Discounts for good reviews not so great.
