Sub-Zero Not Cooling? Same-Day Sub-Zero Repair
A warm Sub-Zero refrigerator or a freezer that stopped freezing is the most common call we get from Sub-Zero owners. Appliance Tech Pros has repaired Sub-Zero built-in, column and PRO units across North Atlanta and North Georgia since 2014, using genuine OEM parts. Call our Sub-Zero line at (470) 805-1621 for same-day service.
Signs Your Sub-Zero Needs Service
- Refrigerator side is warm but the freezer still works
- Freezer stopped freezing or food is softening
- Both sides warm, compressor not running
- Service light, temperature alarm or error message on the display
- Unit runs constantly but never reaches temperature
- Ice buildup on the back wall or around the door
- Loud fan, clicking or buzzing from the top grille
What Usually Causes a Sub-Zero to Stop Cooling
Sub-Zero refrigerators use separate cooling systems for the fridge and freezer on most models, so one side can fail while the other keeps working. These are the causes we find most often:
- Dirty condenser coil. The top-mounted condenser collects dust and lint, and a clogged coil is the single most common cause of poor cooling.
- Condenser or evaporator fan motor. A failed fan stops air from moving across the coils.
- Start relay, capacitor or compressor. If you hear clicking but the compressor never starts, it’s usually electrical.
- Defrost problems. A failed defrost heater or sensor lets ice block the evaporator.
- Clogged drain. Water backs up, freezes and causes leaks and ice buildup.
- Door gasket or hinge. A worn seal lets warm air in and the unit can’t keep up.
- Control board or temperature sensor. Wrong readings mean the unit never calls for cooling.
Models We Repair
We service every Sub-Zero line, including Classic built-in models (BI-36, BI-42, BI-48 and the older 500 and 600 series such as the 532, 611, 632, 642 and 650), Designer column and integrated units, and PRO 48 refrigerators. See our Classic, Designer and PRO Series pages.
What to Do Before We Arrive
- Move food from the warm side into a cooler or the working side
- Check that the unit has power and the breaker hasn’t tripped
- Note any error message or light on the display
- Find the model and serial number (usually on the ceiling of the refrigerator compartment) and text it to us with your request
Prevent It From Happening Again
Most Sub-Zero cooling failures start with a dirty condenser. We recommend a professional condenser cleaning and system check every 6 to 12 months. Ask about our Sub-Zero maintenance visit when you call (470) 805-1621, or see all Sub-Zero repair services.
